Summary of Scoring and Interpretations

The FM5 contains 15 questions scored on a 6-point Likert scale with values from 0 (“Not at all”) to 5 (“A great deal”). The FM5 contains 5 subscales: emotional stability, openness, agreeableness, extroversion, and conscientiousness. Note, each of the 5 subscales are scored separately (there is no total score). Scores for each subscale are calculated by summing the 3-item responses and ranges from 0 to 15; higher scores are associated with higher levels of identification with that dimension of personality. See the table below for subscales and their associated item numbers.

  • People with high scores on openness by definition are high on being imaginative, creative and curious.

  • People with high scores on agreeableness by definition are high on being kind, warm and trustful.

  • People with high scores on extroversion by definition are high on being talkative, extroverted, and sociable.

  • People with high scores on conscientiousness by definition are high on being responsible, reliable and practical.
