Changing your Plan in the Middle of a Billing Cycle
Changing your Plan in the Middle of a Billing Cycle
Updated this week

Adjusting your Blueprint plan is designed to be quick and easy, no matter when you want to make changes. Whether you’re downgrading or upgrading (manually or automatically), your billing cycle will reset, ensuring you have a full month to use your new plan's features.

Read on for more details and examples.

Billing Vocab

Here are a few key terms we commonly use when discussing your Blueprint subscription. No need to memorize these, but they're here to reference if needed. 😃

Billing Cycle

A recurring period, usually 30 or 31 days, during which your Session usage is measured. It resets each month on your Billing Date for the Plan you're already subscribed to.

Billing Date

The day your Session usage count resets and you're charged for the upcoming month.

Plan

The subscription package you choose, which defines the features available. Options include Free, Standard, Plus, and Enterprise.

Tier

The usage level within a Plan, based on the number of Sessions per month (e.g., 30, 60, or 100). Choose a Tier that suits your practice’s needs.

How it works: Billing Cycle resets + unused session credits

When you change your plan mid-billing cycle, either by upgrading or downgrading, your Billing Cycle and Billing Date both reset. This means:

  • You get a full month of access to your new Plan's Sessions, starting from the date of the change.

  • Credits are applied for any unused Sessions from your current Plan, ensuring you don’t lose what you've already paid for.

This approach eliminates the frustration of upgrading just before your Billing Cycle renews, leaving little time to use the new Plan that you just paid for.

⬇️ Example 1: Manually downgrading mid-cycle

Let’s say you’re on the Standard 60-Session Plan ($59/month), and your Billing Date is the 10th of each month.

On November 6th, just a few days before your Billing Date, you decide to downgrade to the Standard 30-Session Plan ($29/month), and you’ve already used 45 out of 60 Sessions this month.

When you downgrade, you’ll receive a credit for the 15 Sessions you haven't used yet from your previous Plan, approximately $15. This closes out your previous Billing Cycle, giving you a fresh start! ✨

Now, you’re starting a new monthly Billing Cycle on the Standard 30-Session Plan, with your new Billing Date set to the 6th each month moving forward.

You’ll be charged $14 for the new Plan right away, which is the cost of the Standard 30-Session Plan ($29/month) minus the $15 credit for your previous Plan's unused Sessions.

Your next charge will be on December 6th for $29, and on the 6th of each month thereafter (unless, of course, you change your Plan again.)

💡 Resetting the Billing Date ensures that your downgrade is effective immediately without waiting for the current Billing Cycle to end, and you receive credit for the unused portion of the previous Plan.

Also, in the event that your unused Sessions credit is larger than the cost of your new Plan, a refund will be issued to your bank account. Refunds may take 5-10 business days to appear in your account, depending on your bank.

⬆️ Example 2: Manually upgrading mid-cycle

Let's say you're on the Standard 30-Session Plan ($29/month) and your Billing Date is the 10th of each month.

On November 8th, just a couple days before your Billing Date, you decide to upgrade to the Standard 60-Session Plan ($59/month) and you've already used 26 of 30 Sessions this month.

When you upgrade, you will receive a credit for the 4 Sessions you haven't used (but already paid for), approximately $4. This closes out your previous Billing Cycle -- it's time to start totally fresh! ✨

Now, you're starting a brand new monthly Billing Cycle with your new, 60-Session Plan and your new Billing Date will be the 8th of each month moving forward.

You'll be charged approximately $55 for the new Plan immediately, which is the price of the 60-Session Plan ($59/month) minus the $4 credit for your previous month's unused Sessions.

Your next charge will be on December 8th for $59, and on the 8th of each month thereafter (unless, of course, you change your Plan again.)

💡 Because your Billing Date resets, you'll have a full month to use your new Plan, maximizing the value of your upgrade.

⬆️ Example 3: Automatic upgrades mid-cycle

Let’s say you’re on the Standard 30-Session Plan ($29/month), and your Billing Date is the 10th of each month.

On November 2nd (8 days before your Billing Date) you reach your Session limit by using all 30 Sessions. To ensure there’s no interruption to your service, Blueprint automatically upgrades you to the next tier up, which is the Standard 60-Session Plan ($59/month).

Since this is an automatic upgrade, there are no unused Sessions to credit. However, your Billing Cycle is still reset so that you have a full month (rather than just 8 days) to use your new 60-Session Plan.

Now, your new Billing Date set to the 2nd of each month. You’ll be charged $59 right away for the new 60-Session Plan.

Your next charge will be on December 2nd for $59 (unless you decide to make changes to your Plan before then).

💡 Just like the other examples, with automatic upgrades you get the most value from your Plan without paying extra for just a few days of upgraded service.

FAQ

Where can I see all the Plans and Tiers?

All Plans and Tiers are listed here: https://www.blueprint.ai/pricing

For more details on each Plan, check out our Help Article Blueprint Plans + Pricing

The number of Sessions I need per month is in between Tiers. What should I do?

You could subscribe to the lower Tier to start. If/when you hit that Tier's Session limit, you'll be automatically upgraded to the next Tier, so you never have to worry about not having the Sessions you need. If needed, you can downgrade to a lower Tier whenever you'd like.

Currently there isn't a way to create a custom Tier or Session count.
